Welcome to my accessibility journey!

Exciting news to announce!! The horse-drawn wagon ride at Christmas in Merrickville will once again be wheelchair accessible! We will be renting a wagon specifically built for wheelchair access from Queens as one of the two wagons that day. It has an built in ramp, wheelchair tie downs, and all the fun of a horse-drawn wagon ride. A special thanks to the Christmas in Merrickville Planning Committee for working so hard to arrange this as well to the Merrickville Lions Club, who are helping fund this project.

Not only will the wagon ride be wheelchair accessible, but the fund provided by the Lions Club also covers other accessibility items that might pop up such as a ramp up to Santa’s Cottage.

Very excited for this event as it is paying more attention to accessibility and inclusion than ever before. Obviously nothing will be perfect, but we are doing what we can so that persons with disabilities can enjoy their day and participate in the activities too. Moving in the right direction!

Stay tuned for my story about how the event goes after it’s over! It takes place on Saturday, December 5th so I hope to see many of you there!!

(I know it is hard to see in the picture but it does have all of the features I mentioned.)

Welcome to Rolling with Sarah! I am a 26-year-old wheelchair user from Merrickville, Ontario. Throughout my life, I have encountered both amazing accessibility and impossible to believe barriers On this site, I will document my journey as a person with a disability. My highs, my lows, and everything in between. I will recognize accessibility efforts by others, as well as what I am doing to improve accessibility myself. Roll along with me!
