This past Sunday my mom and I decided to give the Kemptville Farmers Market a try. Am I ever glad we did! To start, they had two accessible parking spots right up front. We got dropped off so we didn’t use them, but it was a nice thing to see. Often events like this often happen right in those spots as they are close to the entrance of whatever store they are outside of, and therefore get more traffic going by them. There were plenty of interesting goodies to choose from. We got soft pretzels, a great Christmas idea for my Grandma, potatoes, a soup mix, shallots, jam and more. The pavement was pretty smooth and there were no steep inclines so I could have rolled myself if my mom hadn’t been there to push me. Instead I held the bags and all of our purchases. Pretty good for accessibility. There are a few improvements that could be made (like the ramp up to the stage) but all in all I was satisfied. Beautiful day too!
The best part was running into my old friend Deanna. She was a nurse when I was at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Fun story, when I was still under CHEO’s care, I needed bloodwork done early in the morning for a specific test. The hospital was over an hour away. That same day something important was going on at school (I can’t remember exactly what, I just remember really wanting to be there.) School started at 8:00am so there was no way I could do both. Deanna lives in Kemptville. She offered to take her own time and come to my house early in the morning, do my bloodwork there, then drive it into CHEO. I have never been so grateful. It was so kind of her and she didn’t need to do that. Just goes to show what a wonderful person she is.
Flash forward to the farmer’s market, she had a booth for her farm, Apocalypse Farms. It was here that we got beautiful shallots and a delicious homemade Scape Powder. I can’t begin to express how good it was to see her. If you are ever at the Kemptville Farmer’s Market check out her booth, lots of great produce and other homemade goodies like Scape Powder (which came with a great dip recipe!)
We had fun and I will definitely go back. Lots of variety and very friendly people. We’ve been meaning to go all summer so I’m glad we got the chance before they stopped for the season. Gotta love a good farmers market!
