If you know me, you know I love cooking shows. From Chopped to Top Chef, I can’t seem to get enough. One thing has always stuck out at me though. I rarely see myself represented among the contestants. That is to say, there are very few disabled chefs. That’s why I was so happy to see the new episode of Tournament of Champions. Chef Dan Jacobs was one of the competing chefs. Cane and all, he cooked his heart out against the “Randomizer”. You see, Dan was diagnosed with Kennedy’s Disease, a genetic neuromuscular ailment commonly mistaken for ALS. This disease can make simple tasks like walking upstairs or chopping an onion feel like massive endeavours. Even with this degenerative disease, he runs two standout restaurants and raises money for Kennedy’s Disease. Spoiler alert: I am so happy he won his qualifier round of the tournament and will continue on in the competition. Let’s keep cheering him on as he shows us that anyone can be an amazing chef!
