Ok, so this needs to be said. If your business is not actually wheelchair accessible, please DO NOT advertise it as so. A lot of people with disabilities do research before they go somewhere to ensure they can access a place or space. Recently, I researched an establishment, and they claimed to be wheelchair accessible when they were far from it. Stating that your business is accessible when it is not can really throw a wrench into someone’s plans. Steps but no ramp? Not accessible. No actuator and a heavy door? Not accessible. Sometimes I plan my day around an outing only to show up and not be able to even get in. This is beyond disappointing. It is misleading. To serve parents of young children (strollers…), an aging demographic, and persons with mobility disabilities, it makes sense for businesses to include everyone, but if you don’t, please don’t state that you do. I would rather know in advance than waste my time going someplace that I really cannot experience. Instead of just losing a customer, misleading information risks negative reviews and word of mouth spreads fast when a business misrepresents itself.
