Nothing like a local movie night! The local community hub in Merrickville, The Pews, and the Merrickville Lions Club partnered to bring Secondhand Lions to their 16ft big screen. The venue is an old church, so the viewing area is where the congregation would have gathered, hence the name The Pews. There are no steps to the front door, which is nice because everyone can use the same entrance. In a previous meeting, I had the opportunity to sit down with the Pews and talk about accessibility. One of the suggestions discussed was the removal of one of the pews and it be replaced by folding chairs. This way, no seating would be lost, but in the case someone with a mobility aid like a wheelchair were to show up, they would have a space. I was delighted upon entry to see they had created an accessible space ! I sat there and had a perfect view of the screen. Positive change is always wonderful to see happen. I really appreciate that they were so diligent in making an inclusive environment. The sound for the movie was also very good quality. Quite an enjoyable evening. Nice to have an accessible location so close to home.
